We started a trial of Oxycide 2 weeks ago and the Ecolab rep told us about the vinegar smell so we were prepared for that but some our staff is still experiencing watery eyes and a runny nose, somebody else reported a headache. Does anybody have any feedback on using this product? We like the fact that it does great on glass, chrome and eliminates the need for bleach protocol in a C.diff case but we do not want to overlook staff safety/ comfort.

We have been using since January and we did initially have many complaints very similar to yours. One person left the department (of 180 people). There are some people who were more sensitive than others and we did offer masks and goggles, which some still wear. However, many of the complaints came from people who were not using the product correctly. We no longer receive complaints regularly but I had supervisors rounding the 1st month or so and ensuring staff were using the right amount of chemical to the right amount of microfiber and not squirting the product on surfaces, other than in commode (even one of my best techs was doing this initially on the bed and then complaining about the smell). Also, make sure you are checking the dispensers (pH strips) and ensure staff are not using 2 dispensers at same time (we had a neutral cleaner and Oxycide hooked up at same closet).

I would recommend showing staff the SDS sheets (highlighting the safety concerns on "as dispensed) and then maybe showing them bleach and quat SDS sheets. We had one of our safety specialist cover this in a staff meeting. I am happy to help you with any other questions. Thanks!

    Hi All,
I use a product made by Clorox called Fuzion and it kills c-diff and does not have an offense odor. Its a bit pricey and kills many other viruses etc. Staff that have issues using bleach have had success in using this product...JoAnn Coulombe 603-643-7052
